M.O.R.E.'s Bomb Proof Motor Mounts:

Installed on: 1977 Jeep CJ5

By: Jody Campbell

If you have ever had a motor mount break you know how troublesome it can be. You should also know that replacing the old rotten ones are an easy task. Well to avoid all of this, We installed a set of M.O.R.E. (Mountain
Off Road Enterprises) bombproof motor mounts. These are the highest quality motor mounts I have ever seen! They are mig welded at all joints and use polyurethane bushings on a grade five bolt to support the motor. The final product is then powder coated. The beauty of these mounts is, they bolt into the stock locations in the frame. The part number for the motor mounts used in this install is JM-100.

Installation:

Remove old motor mount and set new one in place. Begin the install by blocking the vehicle tires. You can start on either side of the engine, I chose to start on the passenger side, as it is a little trickier. I first drained the oil and removed the oil filter to access the passenger’s side mount a little easier. The correct way to raise the engine for removal and installation of the mounts, is to use an engine hoist, since I don’t own one and couldn’t find one to borrow, I used a floor jack and a few blocks of wood. (not the safest way, but it worked) I loosened the old rubber mounts, and jacked up the passenger’s side of the motor. Once the old mounts were out, I placed a 4x4 block of wood between the side of the motor and the frame to keep the motor from falling. Next, the support mounts on the frame need to be removed as the new mounts replace these too. Now bolt the new mount to the frame and lower the motor(slowly) onto the other end. You may have to move the motor slightly to get the holes to line up for the bolts to pass through the plate. Tighten the bolts up snug, but not all the way. Move to the drivers side and repeat the process. Bolt new mount to frame, align motor with mount and install bolts. Tighten all the bolts according to the owners manual, replace the oil filter, fill the motor with oil and give your rig a test drive. You should notice less vibration and much better engine response. You can also take comfort in the fact that you will never have to worry about your motor mounts again!

This is what it looks like when it's all finished. Finished product, view from passenger side. Finished product, view from top, drivers side.
