Hello everyone,
Im new to the Chevy world and just bought a 2008 sivlerado 2500 HD with the 6.6L and Allison transmission. I love the truck but can not get over how small the wheel and tires are. I wanted to add larger tires and wheels with out lifting the truck. I'd like to use a leveling kit to do this but don't know where to start. Someone please help.

Hey JeepJunkie - first off, welcome to the forums! Secondly, congratulations on your new truck!!! The '08 2500 HD is a great truck and there are a lot of really great upgrades you can make to it without breaking the bank. Back to your question... You can indeed get a levelling kit for your truck, and they are not a lot of money (relatively speaking). I just sold my '06 2500 HD Silverado 4X4 and I put larger 31" tires on it without a levelling kit or lift kit. I did need to do some fenderwell (the plastic portion) trimming, but they fit very nicely and they looked at home inside there. My truck sat pretty level, but I think the '08s sit with a tiny bit more rake to it. I will caution you though... when I went from the stock tires to the 31's, I lost about 3 mpg in fuel efficiency!!! I loved the look, but hated paying the price at the pump because of it. I also felt it when towing heavy loads too... had to go deeper into the gas pedal a LOT more often. Gears in both axles were / are out of my budget range. Hindsight 20/20, I would have stayed with the stock sized tires. Ahhh... lessons learned. (Hey, at least you don't have a Dodge Ram, where they come with tiny tires, but have openings that will hold 44" tires!). Anyhow, depending upon your tool selection and your capabilities, you can do a levelling kit yourself, or you can pay to have one done at a local 4-wheel drive shop, for not a lot more money. Does that help? Rick |
