hey guys I have a question, on my 98 chevy blazer every six months or so my truck will start sputtering real bad and the service engine light will come on but after I replace the distributor rotor it runs perfect.  Do you know what would be causing the rotor to go bad so much.  thanks

Have you ever pulled the codes from the computer? If so, what code # did it give you?

when it first started to happen the service engine light would come on. I took it to autozone and they said it was a random misfire don't know the exact codes though. I would take it back to them but they said the service engine light has to be on for them to check it. Also I would like to get one of those readers what would be the best kind to get for my truck. thanks for all your help

Yeah... that's a bunch of horse dung. The ECU retains previous codes until they get cleared (manually or automatically). The light doesn't have to be on, you can pull previous codes at any time.

As far as purchasing a scanner goes, I would go with the cheapest one you can find from your local autoparts store, or from eBay or something like that. It's one of those tools that you'll use a few times, and then all of your friends will use it.

Or, you can just find a decent auto parts store and use theirs for free too. Just avoid the dummies. ;)

not to come to autozones resscue. Cause i completely hate the company and how its run there is alot of scams going on all the managers are usally hired with no auto experience at all. but there scanners wont pull the codes unless the check engine light is one. they have a scanner that will acces them but the stores are not allowed to use them cause they cost 300 dollars. but they will sell them to you.
I really think it might be you pick up coil cause the random mutiple cylinder missfire is one of the codes that comes with the pick up coil being bas. Autozone can test is for you but i wouldn't trust the test and also you have to find somebody who knows how to run the machine to test them allot of the people dont know how to use the machine.
