I now have 4-wheel disc brakes in my '75 FJ40, but stopping (even with power brakes) is a real chore. I simply can't lock up the brakes, or stop in a decent amount of time.
I heard a rumor that you can simply swap in the master cylinder from a '82 to '85 Toy mini truck with no modifications and that this will fix all of my problems. Is this true?

I figured it out. It turned out to be that the actuating rod between the brake pedal and the master cylinder was too short. Then I ran into another probelem with the brakes holding pressure after a while. Anyhow, the whole thing got fixed and now it stops on a dime!!!!

A proportioning valve is a must for rear disc conversions.

I used a master cylinder from a mini truck and it works awesome too! I had to play around with a few different years to get the right bore / pressue / volume, but now I can stop on a dime.
...just another option.

Having the same issue - right now after putting on front and rear disc conversion for JT Cruisers my rear lock up without pressure on petal - any suggestions - I am looking at a proportioning valve. I have a master cylinder from an 86 Fourrunner on now.
